Abstract

The issue of collision between the freedom of expression and the right to privacy is quite relevant at any stage of public development, especially for the world on the road to digitalization. Despite the importance of both rights and the fact that they are recognized as important principles of a democratic and fair state, it is quite difficult to develop their mutually enforceable mechanisms. The difficulty of the issue is determined by the diverse relationships which have moved into the virtual space and erased the line between freedom of expression and the private life of others.
People’s daily life is unimaginable without new technologies. Most of society sees danger only when there is a harmful outcome. In other cases, caution is covered by the desire to satisfy daily needs, which increases the number of people using electronic means and endangering their privacy. The collision between freedom of expression and the right to privacy is exacerbated by the increase of social networks, because on such platforms the opinion expressed publicly by one person may step into the area protected by the right to privacy of another person.
This article discusses the problematic issues between the right to privacy and freedom of expression.
